Dustin Jones

Dustin is a Physical Therapist with a background in geriatrics, sports, and orthopedics. He received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2011 from the University of Kentucky and went on to become a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Russian Kettlebell Instructor (RKC-1). He blends what he has learned working with athletic populations to help older patients improve their capacity. The creator of The Senior Rehab Project, Dustin has been a key voice in shifting attention towards elevating the quality of care, and more specifically in many cases the intensity of care, that we deliver to older adults. He is also on faculty with the Institute of Clinical Excellence’s Older Adult Division.

Are your clients concerned about a fall? Many of our clients are but how many are prepared in the event of a fall? This is an element of programming that is often ignored but cannot be forgotten. This session will cover all you need to know about falls and getting to/from the ground. ● The science of FEAR OF FALLING & how it impacts PERFORMANCE. ● How to PREVENT your clients from falling. ● How to PREPARE your clients for a fall. ● How to RECOVER from a fall.

Objectives:

1. Recognize the impact fear of falling has on human performance.

2. Recognize the importance of floor transfers in your programming.

3. Demonstrate proper safety precautions when performing floor transfers to ensure confidence in yourself and your client.

4. Apply appropriate floor transfer progressions and regressions for your clients.
